• Nilssons history

    1920

    A few years before 1920 the first car was seen in the city of Laholm. It was a French model called Panhard and it made quite stir in the city. Landowners and rich merchants started to buy cars.

    From the prosperous bicycle manufacturing industry in Laholm some pioneers in engineering became very interested in cars. Companies related to the car industry started, among them Laholm Karosseri.

    The T-Ford became very popular in Sweden.

    1930

    Mr Yngve Nilsson was employed by Laholms Karosseri in 1934. High demands were put on knowledge and craftsmanship from the steel industry.

    1940

    The Second World War put a temporary hold to car manufacturing.

    In 1945, Yngve and his wife Linnea start Yngve Nilssons Karosseri.

    1950

    The number of employees grew to 10 persons and a new product was introduced, hearses.

    1960

    Yngve Nilssons Karosseri signed its first agreement with Volvo - to build service vans on the Amazon model. This project lead to a significant production of ambulances, built on Volvo. Hearses were now exported to the United Kingdom.

    1970

    Yngve Nilssons twin sons, Karl-Erik and Nils-Åke took over the company and the cooperation with Volvo was intensified. Yngve Nilsson Karosseri becomes a supplier to Volvo. Ambulances, hearses and limousines dominate the productions. A new factory is built.

    1980

    DDR becomes a major market for Limousines. 123 unique Citroën-limousines and a number of Landaulet's are produced for the east-German government. Hearses start to be assembled in Volvos factories in Malaysia and Indonesia.

    Yngve Nilsson Karosseri is awarded Company of the Year in Laholm.

    1990

    Yngve Nilsson Karosseri celebrates 50 years anniversary. Apart from the ordinary production a number of spectacular vehicles were built - prototype Volvo 850 Cabriolet, stretched Mercedes A-class, Ferrari Dino 206 S etc.

    2000

    The cooperation with Volvo is terminated. Yngve Nilsson Karosseri is no longer acting as supplier for Volvo. The company becomes independent and buys the developing projects for limousines and hearses based in the new Volvo S80 chassi.

    2001

    3000 limousines have now been produced in Laholm. A well-known slogan became famous all over the world; "Making Cars Longer".

    2004

    A new era of the company started. Cars were still to be built on Volvo chassis and approximately 20 persons were employed.

    Although the re-start of Nilsson Special Vehicles had a somewhat troublesome start, the owner Ulf Corné and all employees were determined to overcome the obstacles. Car manufacturing started once again in the same premises and one of the more prestigious projects was a limousine to the royal family in Holland.

    The total number of cars delivered in 2004 was 31 units. All efforts to regain confidence in the market and once again be part of the Swedish motor manufacturing industry had paid off.

    2005

    Production increased and markets all over the world start once again to show interest for the small company in Laholm.

    2006

    The cooperation with Volvo has developed well and important suppliers are being contracted.

    Production increases and so does the number of employees. A need for ambulances in Sweden and Norway gives a boost to the company. Nilsson Special Vehicles is back and there to stay.

    2007

    In the autumn of 2007 sheik Mohammed-Amoudi becomes the majority owner of Nilsson Special Vehicles.

    2008

    A number of important orders came to Nilsson Special Vehicles. For instance more than 50 hearses and limousines from our dealer in the United Kingdom, Wilcox & Co. These vehicles were delivered in 2008 and in the first quarter of 2009.

    Work has started to establish dealers in other European countries. The financial crisis has an effect also on special vehicles with a lower order-intake result.

    2009

    Nilsson Special Vehicles won a prestigious tender of ambulances to the biggest hospital in northern Europe, Ullevål Universitetssjukhus in Oslo, Norway. Until today 8 units have been delivered and an additional 6 units will be delivered before summer.

    Nilsson Special Vehicles has now new dealers in Italy, Poland, Belgium, Holland, Luxemburg, Spain and France.

    2010

    A milestone in the history of Nilsson was when the new Ambulance was introduced in the month of April. Even before the launch we had a number of confirmed orders and since then the order stock has increased even more.

    2010 was a year when we not only received a WVTA (Whole-Vehicle-Type-Approval) for the new Ambulance but also for a number of our variants of hearses. Our ambition to grow in Europe took consequently a giant leap.
